What type of service are you looking for?
There are 3 different types of appointments you can book: Design Consultations, Design Appointments, and Alterations Appointments.
Design Consultation
This is a discovery meeting where you have the opportunity to learn more about 9Tailors and our catalogue.
What to expect:
- Design Consultations take 45 minutes.
- This is a discovery meeting to discuss your design options at 9Tailors Boston. During the appointment, your Style Advisor will work with you to establish the vision for your custom garment. No commitment to the design is necessary.
- This appointment option is only available to you if you have 12 weeks, or more, time for production. If you have less than 12 weeks time, you will need to schedule a Design Appointment to allow enough time for measurements so that we can get started on production immediately.
- If you want to bring family or friends to your appointment, please notify us ahead of time. We limit the number of guests in an appointment to 3; the person designing and 2 guests. If you wish to schedule a wedding party or a group design, please let us know how many people will be designing in your group and we can find a time to accommodate you. These designs are typically scheduled either as the first or last appointment of the day.
Design Appointment
An appointment to discuss style options and design a custom garment.
What to expect:
- Design Appointments take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you have had a Design Consultation and this is your follow-up, it will be scheduled for 60 minutes.
- The Design Appointment is when you design your garment! You pick the fabric, decide on the elements that make your garment (buttons, pocket style, lapel style, lining options, silhouette, etc.) and get measured.
Stages of the design process
- The production timeline for a custom suit is 8 weeks during off season and 12 weeks during peak season. Production timeline starts the day that your order is placed by a 9Tailors team member, not the day you submit an appointment request. Shirts may be produced within 6 weeks. For our Bespoke and Couture offerings, the timeline can be 12-15 weeks
- Our process includes a multistep fitting:
- Custom: This will require 1-2 fittings. At your fitting you will try on the finished garment. We will identify any minor adjustments that we can do to help your garments fit better. All alterations are done in house and take about 2 weeks to be completed. After the alterations are completed we will invite you in for a second fitting, and any necessary additional fittings, until your garments fit the way we agreed upon in the Design meeting.
- Bespoke & Design / Couture: This will require 3-4 fittings. The initial fitting is a basted fitting where the garment is loosely sewn together and allows for more editing before the final garment is made. We take notes from the basted fitting and update the tailor with any changes. The tailor incorporates any edits made. Your final garment is then made with the fabric of your choosing.
- Before the appointment: When you submit a request for an appointment, you will be matched with one of our Style Advisors. The more information you tell us regarding what you are looking for, what you will be using the garment for, and when you need it, will help us provide a better customer experience to get you scheduled.
- After your appointment: If you decide to proceed with a garment design, your order will be submitted at the end of your appointment. This is when payment is due. You have 24 hours after your order is submitted to make changes to your garments. This marks the beginning of the arrival timeline for your garment fabrics. When your garments arrive at 9Tailors Boston, we will do a quality check and reach out to schedule a fitting. At this time, if any alterations are needed, we will schedule a follow-up appointment for you to get garments with the alterations. If no alterations are needed, congratulations! You can take home your new garments.
Alteration
Bring your own garment to be altered.
What to expect:
- Alterations appointments typically take 30 minutes
- All of your garments must come in freshly laundered.
- Please wear undergarments that allow our Style Advisors to see the true fit of the garments for alteration.
Stages of the fitting process
- During the appointment: You will discuss all the changes you want for your garment. We will draw up an invoice for you and you should expect to pay it at the time you leave your garments.
- After the appointment: Alterations are typically completed within 3 weeks based on our tailors’ capacity. If you need your garments before then, a rush order fee will be required. Our tailors will make the requested alterations to the garment. Your Style Advisor will notify you when your garment alterations are complete and schedule a time for you to pick them up.
